A quantitative method of resolving annual precipitation for the past millennia from Tibetan ice cores

چکیده

Abstract. Net accumulation records derived from alpine ice cores provide the most direct measurement of past precipitation. However, quantitative reconstruction for millennia remains challenging due to difficulty in identifying annual layers deeper sections cores. In this study, we propose a method reconstruct millennia, using as an example core drilled at Chongce cap northwestern Tibetan Plateau (TP). First, used laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) technology develop ultra-high-resolution trace element three and identified each section based on seasonality these elements. Second, nine 14C ages determined core, applied two-parameter flow model established thinning parameter core. Finally, converted thickness sample rates model. Our results show that mean are 109 mm yr?1 (2511–2541 years BP), 74 (1682–1697 68 (781–789 respectively. For comparison, Holocene precipitation is 103 yr?1. This has potential continuous high-resolution covering or even longer time periods.

A 1500-year record of tropical precipitation in ice cores from the quelccaya ice cap, peru.

Two ice cores, covering 1500 years of climatic information, from the summit (5670 meters) of the tropical Quelccaya ice cap, in the Andes of southern Peru, provide information on general environmental conditions including droughts, volcanic activity, moisture sources, temperature, and glacier net balance. The net balance record reconstructed from these cores reflects major precipitation trends ...

Antarctic temperatures over the past two centuries from ice cores

[1] We present a reconstruction of Antarctic mean surface temperatures over the past two centuries based on water stable isotope records from high-resolution, precisely dated ice cores. Both instrumental and reconstructed temperatures indicate large interannual to decadal scale variability, with the dominant pattern being anti-phase anomalies between the main Antarctic continent and the Antarct...
